Something I Want You to Know

I originally wrote this in 2008 during our second year of Bible School. It has been posted on my Facebook page ever since. I put it on my blog because I believe it is the most important information I could ever share!

“So, this semester I’ve been taking a class called Personal Evangelism. It’s basically a class on sharing your faith. However, before we learn to share our faith, my professor has been making sure that we understand our faith…that is, what it really takes to get to Heaven and the Presence of God.

Peoples out there…I’ve had a burden for you ever since I first started this class. Some of you are my friends from a long time ago, some of you are newer friends, and some of you are my family. I guess I just want to write this so that you can understand again, or maybe for the first time, just how beautifully simple it is to have a relationship with our Creator God. We Christians are really good at complicating Salvation…making it a whole lot harder than the Bible makes it.

Despite what we’ve heard at church, or camp, or other “Christian events”, you can’t get to heaven by praying a prayer, raising your hand, getting baptized, turning from your sin, surrendering yourself to Christ, going to church, or doing good things. No matter how much faith we have in these things, they won’t hold up.

And, get this, we don’t have to admit that we’re a sinner, confess our sins, repent (as in make a change), or ask Jesus into our heart. (Whatever that means) Nope, it’s this simple:

God is perfect. He demands perfection from those in His Presence. I’m not perfect; you probably aren’t either. No worries. See, God adores us and He knew we’d never be able to make the cut. So, He took care of the problem. God came down, became a person (His name is Jesus), lived a perfect life, and then died for all the sins of every person everywhere. Three days later, Jesus conquered sin and death forever by coming back to life.

Here’s where it gets good! Jesus already did everything for us!!! There is nothing left for us to do except believe Him (trust Him, depend on Him). That’s salvation! That’s all it takes. Simple faith, belief that He is who He says He is, and that He did what He said He did: took our sins and made the way to God. The Bible says 160 times that it is faith alone that brings salvation; there are 90 references to faith alone for salvation in the book of John alone. Here are just two of those verses.

“Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

The part that floors me is this: the people who reject Christ and end up in an eternity in hell…it’s not their sins that put them there…it’s their unbelief. Listen to this:

“Whoever believes in Him is not condemned. But, whoever does not believe stands condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:18
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.” John 3:36

Basically, I’m just so excited to have a clearer understanding of my salvation and I want everyone I love to understand as well. Jesus loves us SO much; it’s incredible!”
